"What's Next" for New Believers
Three things we want you to know
1) You are brand new.
When you respond with faith to the good news about Jesus, radical changes take place. First, the Holy Spirit comes to live in your heart. He is the key to many more positive changes yet to come. The Bible also states that you yourself are a new creation [2 Corinthians 5:17] and that you have been born again [John 3:3]. You now have the Spirit of God and the life of God active in you [Romans 8:9-11].
2) You are right with God.
Once you believe that Jesus died on the cross for your sins, and that He rose from the dead to give you power to live, you are right with God. Romans 5:1-2 says, “Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us. Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God’s glory.” This mean you are forgiven and clean [1John 1:8-9], and that guilt has been completely removed from over your life [Psalm 103:12].
3) You will grow in your relationship with Jesus.
The new life that you have received from God is like a seed that grows when properly cared for [Matthew 4:1-9]. The way you think, feel, make decisions, and relate to others will be transformed as you grow in your relationship with Jesus, allowing Him to direct your life.
3 Things We Want You To Do
1) Have a regular personal time with the Lord that includes prayer and reading the Bible.
To grow in your relationship with Jesus, you must spend time with Him. As you pray and read the Bible, expect the Holy Spirit to speak to you, direct you, and interact with you. Prayer is simply talking to God. God wants you to talk with Him. And you will learn to listen for His quiet voice within you, and to follow His leading and direction for you. We strongly suggest that you set aside time each day for reading the Bible and praying. Also, it is a good idea for you to start your Bible reading in the New Testament.
2) Be water baptized.
Water baptism is the next step for you and is an important, biblical part of following Jesus. It symbolically shows others that your old life is dead and buried; you have been raised to new life in Him and will follow Him for the rest of your life. Watch for the next water baptism opportunity at anointedfaith.org/baptism or call the church office at (281) 374-0816 to us know that you would like to be baptized.
3) Join a Local Church
Getting plugged into church is vital to your journey of following Jesus. Being around other Christians or followers of Jesus is one of the best ways to learn and observe how you follow Jesus in our world. Being with other followers provides us with fellowship, encouragement and even a place to ask questions or discuss matters of our faith.
